translated by

Lady Wang, wife of Quan, the Lord of Wu, was a native of Nanyang. She was chosen to enter the palace, and she found favor [with Quan] during the Jiahe years, giving birth to [Sun] Xiu. When He was made crown prince, He’s mother [Lady Wang of Langya] became greatly revered, and all the other consorts who had found favor with Quan were sent to live outside the palace. The Lady went to Gongan. She died and was buried there. When Xiu ascended the throne, he dispatched a herald to revere her posthumously as Empress of Reverent Memories, and to rebury here at the Jing Tombs. The Wangs having no descendants, the Lady’s brother of the same mother, Wen Yong, was made marquis of a commune.

(I): Updates of this biography have been discontinued by the translator in favor of an alternate translation found in Robert Joe Cutter and William G. Crowell's Empresses and Consorts, a marvelous hardcover book detailing the role of women during the Three Kingdoms era. It includes the biographies of women included in Chen Shou's Sanguozhi. This translation remains online for archival purposes only.
