TABLE OF CONTENTS 1. Introduction 2. Fourth Weapons List 3. Frequently Asked Questions 4. Credits 1. INTRODUCTION This is a FAQ for the latest in Koei's Musou action series, Shin Sangoku Musou 4 (which will be released in the US as "Dynasty Warriors 5", odds are). As in previous Musou games, each playable general has a unique weapon that can only be earned by fulfilling certain conditions. In this game, there are only three levels of normal weapons (which are picked up randomly) per general and thus the unique weapon is each general's 'fourth weapon'. This FAQ will go into the details of each general's fourth weapon as well as how to earn each one. This FAQ makes use of SJIS encoding in order to display Japanese characters. I included this feature so that if you do not know Japanese, you can easily match up the characters on your TV screen to the characters in this guide. You will need to have support for viewing Japanese characters on your computer, however. Certain versions of Windows should have it built in; otherwise, you'll either need to get a program like NJStar Communicator, or you'll need to get Japanese character support for Internet Explorer and open this file in IE instead of Notepad/Wordpad. The only websites authorized to post this FAQ are www.gamefaqs.com and www.kongming.net. If you see this document elsewhere, not only are they posting without my permission, but they likely do not have the most current version of this FAQ. Emails to me asking questions already answered in the FAQ, even if the answers are not in the version you are reading, will be deleted without response. 2. FOURTH WEAPONS LIST This list is ordered simply by character name, in Pinying (anglicized Chinese spelling). Thus even though Wei's leader is named Sousou in Japanese, he is given in this FAQ as Cao Cao, (and thus comes first in the alphabetized list) as that is how his name will be spelled in the US release. Each entry will list the general's name, the name of the weapon (in kanji and translated), the weapon's stats, and then how to get that weapon. Some entries may be unfamiliar as they are new to the Musou series. "Weight" is a new attribute on every weapon and comes in three forms: Light, Average, and Heavy. Light weapons can be swung faster than normal, but they do less damage overall, whereas Heavy weapons are just the reverse. A Light and a Heavy weapon, both with the same base attack, will NOT do the same damage, thanks to this new attribute. "Bow" and "Mounted" are somewhat different from before. In this game, attack and defense for those two categories are consolidated into one statistic. Thus if a weapon has "Bow Lvl 15" on it, that means that weapon grants a level 15 enhancement to BOTH Bow Attack and Bow Defense. The highest possible base attack in this game is 40; the highest enhancement is 20. Fourth weapons can only be earned on Hard difficulty or above. Make sure the difficulty is set as such ïĩĒ when you play. You can play either Musou or Free modes to earn Fourth Weapons. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAO CAO ßVĖ@ Treacharous Sword of Heaven's Dependence Stats: Base Attack 34 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 17 Bow Lvl 15 Life Lvl 17 Mounted Lvl 17 Attack Lvl 17 Battle of Xia Pi š@ĖíĒ Defeat Gao Shun before you get the message that he's guarding the dam (â). You can get the message that he's BEGUN guarding the dam, but you must defeat him quickly after that. Then just defeat Zhang Liao. The Precious Item box will show up outside the castle just outside the south gate. Since defeating Gao Shun makes the castle be flooded, you'll have to go in the castle from the north gate and go through to the south gate. Now just attack Lu Bu. You don't even need to defeat him; if you don't defeat him fast enough, he'll get bored and run, and his troops will turn on him and capture him, making you win the stage all the same. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAO PI ģt Irreverence Stats: Base Attack 34 Average Weight Musou Charge Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 15 Musou Lvl 19 Speed Lvl 19 Attack Lvl 15 Battle of Wu Zhang Plains ÜäīĖíĒ Here is an example of where it would be better to do this in Musou Mode than Free Mode. Wu Zhang Plains is a five-star battle, but in Cao Pi's Musou Mode it's only his fourth stage. Thus, if you do this in Musou Mode the difficulty will be lowered somewhat. First things first; defeat any three generals (not subgenerals) quickly. The ones all bunched up in the center make good fodder, as except for Wei Yan they're all generic guys. Once you kill three generals, Zhuge Liang will pass away. Continue fighting normally; at this point it would be a good idea to seal the enemy's supply route over to the east. Pretty soon you'll see an event where Jiang Wei lays a bunch of automatic crossbows on the central platform. Now all you have to do is get up there and break all of them. There will also be juggernauts floating around, not to mention archer towers, so be careful. Once you've destroyed every single automatic crossbow, the Precious Item box will conveniently appear right in the middle of that central platform. Pick it up and finish the stage to earn your fourth. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAO REN PV Phoenix Wing Stats: Base Attack 32 Light Weight Musou Charge Lvl 15 Bow Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 18 Attack Lvl 15 Life Lvl 19 Retreat of Chi Bi ÔĮĶSí Your task is to defeat all enemy reinforcements quickly. "Quickly" in this case means that you should be able to defeat the reinforcement before Cao Cao's own reinforcement says something along the lines of "Go on first, I'll take care of things here!". You don't need to worry about subgenerals, just get each major general as they show up. After you defeat Guan Ping, immediately head down south, as Sun Quan will show up in the southeast. Once you defeat Sun Quan, the Precious Item box will show up in the little nook between where Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei showed up. Grab the item, then go up and defeat Liu Bei to help Cao Cao escape. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DA QIAO Šüí Qiao Beauty Stats: Base Attack 32 Heavy Weight Luck Lvl 18 Attack Lvl 16 Life Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 15 Musou Lvl 19 Battle of Xia Kou ÄûĖíĒ You must defeat Cai Mao äïāî and Gan Ning before Ling Tong is defeated. Go up the left side first; Gan Ning will appear almost immediately and kill Ling Cao, which will prompt Ling Tong to charge. Gan Ning's in hyper mode for this battle, so be careful. Luckily you'll have Huang Gai and Ling Tong also keeping him busy. Now just head to the center section and defeat Cai Mao, who is nowhere near as hard. The Precious Item box appears just north of Cai Mao's position. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DIAN WEI ^ÉŠ True Ultimate Oxhead Stats: Base Attack 36 Light Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Musou Charge Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 18 Musou Lvl 17 Life Lvl 17 Battle of Wan Castle ķéĖíĒ First rendezvous with Cao Cao. Now lead him to the escape gates, defeating enemies and generals (there'll be two of them) along the way. Once Cao Cao leaves the castle and you get the event where Dian Wei stays behind to block the gates, the hard part begins. You must not let a single enemy past the gates until you get the message that Cao Cao's escape is in progress. This usually happens after you've defeated 5 or 6 troop leaders (the generic enemies with names over their heads). Be careful, as the troop leaders tend to ignore you and just run straight past you. Once you get the message, the Precious Item box will appear slightly in front of you. At this point it doesn't matter if you let people past the gates (let too many and you lose the stage though) so go pick it up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DIAO CHAN āíĘ Gold Beautiful Jade Mace Stats: Base Attack 32 Heavy Weight Musou Charge Lvl 18 Luck Lvl 18 Speed Lvl 19 Defense Lvl 16 Musou Lvl 18 Battle of Xia Pi š@ĖíĒ You must defeat all generals and subgenerals before Cao Cao arrives. You must also save your generals who are off in the west from being killed. Immediately head out to the western area and get Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan's subgenerals; this will trigger them to come charging themselves, so defeat them next. Once you've saved your allies, simply defeat Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei. Defeating all generals will cause Cao Cao to show up early; no worries though, as this should also trigger the Precious Item box to show up in the middle of the southwestern area. Pick it up and then defeat Cao Cao to finish the stage. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DONG ZHUO ĒC Ashura Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Luck Lvl 17 Mounted Lvl 17 Defense Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 18 Life Lvl 15 Battle of Liang Zhou ÁBĖíĒ First, take all 5 of the enemy bases. This shouldn't be too tough. The ones in the southwest and northeast call in reinforcements if you wait too long, but you should have no problem getting to them first. Now defeat Ma Chao. He'll have charge your base by now, so he'll be somewhere in the east amongst your army. Again, isolated as he is, he won't be too tough. Now take on Pang De. He's the toughest as he waits in the middle of his army. Take out the other generals first, one at a time if at all possible. After defeating Pang De, the Precious Item box will appear in the western part of the map, a little bit to the south. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- GAN NING eC Sea Conqueror Stats: Base Attack 38 Light Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Luck Lvl 18 Speed Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 19 Musou Lvl 15 Battle of Xia Kou ÄûĖíĒ You need to defeat Ling Tong and Ling Cao ― within two minutes of the stage starting. Xia Kou is a 1-star difficulty stage, so this is actually quite simple if you remember one little thing - if you defeat Ling Cao first (which most people do since he's closer), Ling Tong will get enraged and go into hyper mode, making him much much harder to kill. Simply charge past Ling Cao, take out Ling Tong first, and then double back to Ling Cao, and you should have plenty of time to spare. The Precious Item box appears near the center of the map, near the boats. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- GUAN PING _īļV Dragon God's Ascendant Blade Stats: Base Attack 36 Light Weight Charge Attack Lvl 16 Luck Lvl 15 Bow Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 17 Life Lvl 15 Retreat of Chi Bi ÔĮĶSí You must defeat all of the generals that appear; subgenerals don't matter. At first, only Cao Ren, Zhang Liao, and Xiahou Dun are on the map; these are coincidentally also the hardest guys to defeat. As time passes four more generals will show up; defeat all of them as well. Now hang out in the northeast corner. After quite a bit of time, Cao Cao's final reinforcement will show up. Defeat him to seal off Cao Cao's escape route, and the Precious Item box will appear near the center of the map. Now just finish off Cao Cao. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- GUAN YU Đī Gold Dragon Halberd Stats: Base Attack 38 Light Weight Charge Attack Lvl 16 Mounted Lvl 16 Defense Lvl 17 Attack Lvl 18 Life Lvl 18 Battle of Fan Castle æéĖíĒ You must defeat Niu Jin ā and Yue Jin yi before the water attack succeeds, which happens four minutes into the stage. Neither are very tough; they're both Cao Ren's subgenerals, and they both charge for the dam where Guan Ping is located, so if you just head north and wait in front of the dam you can easily cut them off. Once you defeat them, wait for the water attack to trigger; once it does the Precious Item box will appear along the southern wall of the castle. Now comes the hard part - you have to get to the castle itself. Pang De is blocking your way, and he's pretty damn tough on this stage. Try and clear out the area around him first and make good use of the two enemy supply depots near him (remember, supply depot captains always drop full heal items). Don't take too long, or Wu reinforcements will show up, which will cause your army's morale to plummet, as well as some of your generals to defect. Once you defeat Pang De a bridge to the castle will appear. Head in, turn right and grab your weapon, then go and defeat Cao Ren; he should have next to no morale at this point, and he's much easier than Pang De. Brandon Boon has the following tip that you can try if you're having trouble with Pang De: Hey, just a comment on your strategy for getting Guan Yu's 4th weapon. If you want to save a lot of heartache fighting Pang De, do the following: 1) Kill Niu Jin and Yue Jin. 2) Make sure you have some time left before the water attack. 3) Pick a fight with Pang De, and get him to chase you into the low-lying grounds surrounding the castle (the part that will be flooded). 4) Wait for the message telling you to get to higher ground. 5) Run up, making sure Pang De is behind you. The second you make it to higher ground, the water attack will trigger, and anything in the flood zone will get wiped--if you did it right, Pang De will be a few steps behind you, and thus behind the arbitrary death marker. Instant kill without taking a swing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- HUANG GAI fCÚ Sea-splitting Whip Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Luck Lvl 16 Defense Lvl 17 Attack Lvl 17 Life Lvl 15 Yellow Turban Rebellion ĐÐĖ You must defeat all generals and subgenerals outside of Zhang Jiao's fort. The subgenerals are spread all over the place so check your map frequently. Remember, if an ally general defeats a subgeneral instead of you, you will fail to earn the weapon, so make sure you defeat every general and subgeneral personally, and take out enemy generals that are engaged with your army first. Once you've defeated everybody, the Precious Item box will appear inside Zhang Jiao's fort, right in front of the altar. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- HUANG ZHONG jŨųa Evil Destroying Whirlwind Cutter Stats: Base Attack 36 Light Weight Musou Charge Lvl 18 Mounted Lvl 15 Bow Lvl 20 Defense Lvl 15 Musou Lvl 15 Battle of Mt. Ding Jun čRRĖíĒ First capture the central mountain. This is as easy as defeating the general camped out there; you can ignore the base if you want to. Now comes the toughpart. You must charge downhill and defeat Xiahou Yuan within the next three minutes. Xiahou Yuan is in hyper mode in this stage, and this is going to be pretty tough as Huang Zhong isn't really that strong in the first place. Use a Musou Kakusei, Ice Orb or Yang Orb, and anything else you can think of to give you an edge. Once you defeat Xiahou Yuan, you're still not done; the last thing you need to do is defeat Zhang He before Cao Cao shows up. Thankfully, Zhang He is nowhere near as tough as Xiahou Yuan on this stage. Once you do all of this, the Precious Item box will show up when Cao Cao shows up at the bottom of the slope that you charged down (i.e., near Xiahou Yuan's initial position). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- JIANG WEI ãī{M Rising Dragon's Flashing Jaw Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Luck Lvl 15 Speed Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 16 Musou Lvl 18 Life Lvl 17 Battle of Tian Sui V ĖíĒ Note that you must be playing as the Wei army, even though Jiang Wei is Shu. This makes sense as at Tian Sui Jiang Wei was fighting for Wei, and it was here where Zhuge Liang convinced him to join Shu. Your goal is to defeat the reinforcement Gao Xiong ãÄ. Gao Xiong shows up in the northeast when your commander tries to run, which he'll do when his morale gets low. To start off, don't advance any; don't defeat too many generals either, lest it boost your morale too high. You can probably take out Wei Yan, but leave the fake Jiang Wei alone. Once both forts fall and the gates to the castle opens, your commander should run. Go to the northeast and lie in wait for Gao Xiong. He isn't very tough at all, so take him out. The Precious Item box will appear in the route leading west from the castle. Now it's just a matter of if you can beat Zhuge Liang before your commander gets beaten up. Charge down to Zhuge Liang as fast as possible, ignoring the other generals, as your commander will get lost and charge straight into the enemy camp - he'll die very quickly if you aren't there. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LING TONG { Raging Waves Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 16 Speed Lvl 19 Life Lvl 15 Luck Lvl 16 Attack Lvl 17 Battle of He Fei ėĖíĒ You must defeat Zhang Liao four times. Once the stage starts defeat generals and claim bases as normal, but don't stray too far from the center area. After awhile Zhang Liao will surprise attack Sun Quan from the south. Cut him off and defeat him. After awhile Zhang Liao will show up from the north center gate; defeat him again. After a little bit longer he'll show up from the southwest corner; then from the gate along the north wall right next to Cao Cao's castle. Defeat him all four times and the Precious Item box will appear on top of the castle wall's southeast corner. Climb the stairs from the inside of the castle and claim your prize. Zhang Liao is in hyper mode throughout the stage, which would be a problem for anybody else, but thanks to Ling Tong's ridiculously broken C4 (add on Ice Orb for a truly sick effect) he should be no match for you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LIU BEI ^Đī True Gold Dragon Sword Stats: Base Attack 34 Average Weight Luck Lvl 20 Mounted Lvl 15 Speed Lvl 18 Defense Lvl 18 Musou Lvl 15 Battle of Yi Ling Î―ĖíĒ You'll have to defeat a number of generals for this one. Take out the nearby enemy supply depot and gate; now just wait. That bridge you see to your north? The enemy will try and use it soon enough to fire attack you. Charge up your musou meter while you're waiting. Find some arrows if you can, too. Ling Tong will come over and camp out by the bridge at some point. This is an excellent chance to snipe him with arrows. In fact if you have enough, you can easily take him out before the bridge even deploys, which will make your job easier. Once the bridge deploys, Zhu Ran éR and Ling Tong (unless you already killed him) will come charging across. Defeat them both. Get Zhu Ran first if you can, as he sometimes runs away from you. After defeating Ling Tong, head north further and take out Gan Ning. He isn't too tough either. Head east and get Lu Xun next. Finally, head southeast (check your map for the precise location); you want to meet Sun Shang Xiang. She's a subgeneral of Sun Quan on this stage. When you do you'll get an event. So sad... Sun Shang Xiang will begin retreating, but apparently to get Liu Bei's fourth you have to be a real asshole, as you have to defeat her after she starts retreating. Way to go, Liu Bei. Once you defeat her, the Precious Item box will show up along the east side of the map, around the center. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LU BU ģoûV Unparalleled Heavenly Halberd Stats: Base Attack 40 Average Weight Mounted Lvl 20 Defense Lvl 20 Attack Lvl 20 Musou Lvl 19 Life Lvl 19 Battle of Chang Mountain íRĖíĒ All you have to do is defeat 1000 enemies. This is pretty straightforward, although there is a small danger of running out of enemies before you hit 1000. Charge north as soon as the stage begins. Ignore Zhang Yan Ģ and go to his north. Take out the attack base that Zhang Yan is in if you can, as its catapults can be annoying. Also take out the nearby archer towers. Now sit in front of the gate (not so close that the gate captain comes charging after you) and just beat up people. And more people. And more people. Eventually your allies will come in and clean up after you, and they'll probably start beating up the gate captain as well. Still, if you have around 800 kills by this point, you should be just fine. Head on into the castle and rack up your remaining 200 kills. Watch out for Zhao Yun and Guan Yu, though... upon reaching 1000 kills, the Precious Item box will appear smack dab in the middle of the castle courtyard. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LU MENG Õ{ Byakko's Jaws Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Mounted Lvl 16 Bow Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 17 Life Lvl 17 Battle of Fan Castle æéĖíĒ Your goal is to defeat Zhang Bao Ģä and Zhang Fei. These guys show up as reinforcements pretty far into the stage. Start the stage as you normally would. After about five minutes in, you'll be told that an enemy gate is holding up Wei reinforcements. Go and capture the indicated gate (over on the east side of the map). Once you do, enemy reinforcements will show up, and Xu Huang will show up for your side. About another five minutes after that, Zhang Fei and Zhang Bao will show up in the southwestern fort. Since you have time to spare, try and clear out that area first. Zhang Bao is Zhang Fei's subgeneral, so go after him first. Once you've defeated them both, the Precious Item box shows up near the dam along the rivershore in the northwest. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LU XUN Mō Flashing Flying Swallow Stats: Base Attack 34 Average Weight Musou Charge Lvl 15 Luck Lvl 18 Speed Lvl 20 Attack Lvl 15 Musou Lvl 19 Battle of Bai Di Castle ééĖíĒ Here your goal is to defeat both Ma Chao and Jiang Wei before Yue Ying arrives. Luckily for you, Yue Ying doesn't arrive at a set time; rather, she is set to show up 1 minute and 30 seconds after you either defeat Xing Cai or set foot in Bai Di Castle. As long as you know this, it's pretty easy not to trigger Yue Ying's appearance; just don't do either of those things (Xing Cai is in hyper mode anyway, plus she's got a row of automatic crossbows with her, meaning you're not too likely to defeat her even if you wanted to). Head north and take out Huang Zhong and his subgeneral. Along the way Ma Chao will get angry and disappear from the map. Suspicious... depending on how long you take, you may or may not reach the northern maze before Ma Chao sneak attacks Sun Quan. In any case, it wouldn't hurt to camp out by Sun Quan and minimize your losses when Ma Chao does show up. He too is in hyper mode, plus he uses a Musou Kakusei after a bit, making him very dangerous. Run away when he uses the Musou Kakusei and for the love of god take out the archers, especially since Lu Xun doesn't handle crowds too well. Once you defeat Ma Chao, head to the maze. Take out the subgeneral guarding the entrance, then head around the maze in a clockwise fashion until you get to the center. There's a strange statue here. Break it; this will prompt some generic troops to show up. All you have to do now is defeat all of the generic troops here, and you'll have cleared the maze (every single door will open). There is a full heal in the northeast corner if you need it. Now all that's left to do is to take out Jiang Wei. Get behind the automatic crossbow as fast as possible. Jiang Wei isn't in hyper mode or anything, so he should be pretty easy. Once you defeat him, the Precious Item box will show up in the northeast corner of the maze (same room as where the full heal is). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- MA CHAO īRë Dragon Knight Edge Stats: Base Attack 38 Average Weight Mounted Lvl 20 Defense Lvl 16 Life Lvl 15 Speed Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 17 Battle of Tong Gate āMÖĖíĒ This is without a doubt the easiest weapon to get in the entire game. Actually, this is the easiest weapon to get in the entire history of Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games. Soon after the stage starts, Cao Cao will begin heading north. All you have to do is knock him off of his horse before he crosses the river in the north. Simply put Ma Chao on a horse (as if you wouldn't anyway), charge for Cao Cao as soon as the stage starts, and smack him once. The Precious Item box will appear in the north area, east of the river. Now just loop back and beat up Cao Cao. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- MENG HUO SbĪ King of Hundred Beasts Stats: Base Attack 36 Light Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Musou Charge Lvl 15 Mounted Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 18 Life Lvl 19 Pacification of Nan Zhong ė―čí Your task is pretty straightforward - just defeat Wei Yan, Huang Zhong, and Yue Ying. Upon doing so the Precious Item box will show up in the southern secret passage (the dark gray areas of the map that you can see but the Shu army cannot). Meng Huo is so freakin' slow you'll definitely want a horse, but otherwise there isn't really any trick or strategy to this one (though watch out for the juggernauts when facing Yue Ying). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PANG DE ÁVŪn World-shaking Stats: Base Attack 36 Light Weight Luck Lvl 15 Mounted Lvl 17 Defense Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 16 Life Lvl 18 Battle of Mt. Ding Jun čRRĖíĒ Here you need to defeat all generals besides Liu Bei and Fa Zeng @ģ before Cao Cao arrives. There is a trick to this; if you enter the central mountain at any point, Huang Zhong will charge downwards and kill Xiahou Yuan pretty quickly, which makes Cao Cao show up. Thus, you should avoid going onto the mountaintop until you're ready to take Huang Zhong. First head south and take care of Zhao Yun and Guan Ping. Then loop around north without climbing the mountain to get Wei Yan. Go back towards your own camp; two more of the Shu generals should've come charging by now, defeat them both. Finally just defeat Huang Zhong. He's pretty ridiculously tough on this stage, so make sure you're amply buffed. Once you defeat him, the Precious Item box will appear along the southern edge of the map. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PANG TONG _ņ Superb Wind God's Staff Stats: Base Attack 32 Average Weight Musou Charge Lvl 18 Luck Lvl 15 Bow Lvl 16 Defense Lvl 17 Life Lvl 15 Pacification of Nan Zhong ė―čí Follow Zhuge Liang's orders and clear the poison lakes, beast units, and armored troops 'missions'. The poison lake mission simply requires taking the base to its east (the one right in front of you); the beast unit mission involves taking the base to the east of the northern central area. The armored troops mission is a little trickier. When you enter the area with Wu Tugu YË, armored troops will show up. Zhuge Liang will send out a tactics squad and some pots that explode to that area. You simply have to defeat Wu Tugu before the tactics squad is defeated, which isn't too hard. After clearing all three of these missions, the Precious Item box will appear a little to the northwest of the poison lakes area. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIMA YI ïHî Odd Miracle Feathered Fan Stats: Base Attack 32 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 16 Musou Lvl 19 Musou Charge Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 15 Battle of Chen Cang ÂqĖíĒ You must stop the siege machine lines by taking all three of the enemy defense bases along the south before any damage is done to your castle walls. It takes awhile for the walls to be damaged so you can pretty much ignore the siege machines that are already on the map and just head straight for each defense point. Ignore generals if possible. Once you get all three defense points, the Precious Item box will appear just inside the castle near where you started. After this it doesn't matter if the castle walls are breached; just have a field day killing generals and finish the stage at your leisure. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUN CE eĪ Conqueror King Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 18 Life Lvl 15 Speed Lvl 18 Musou Lvl 15 Sun Ce Illusionary Battle ·ôķeí Have fun with all the clones... your end goal is to defeat all of the illusory Gan Jis °g within 10 minutes of the stage starting. The stage starts pretty straightforward. Gan Ji will do annoying things like summon phantom soldiers, summon your own soldiers against you, and eventually summon illusions of Sun Jian and Da Qiao. Defeat Sun Jian in the west and Da Qiao in the east. Now SAVE. After all of this, Gan Ji will clone himself again. Your goal now is to defeat all of the clones (again, all of this needs to be done within 10 minutes). The first couple clones aren't too bad, but as you defeat them the remaining clones power up (go into hyper mode). If you have a Musou Kakusei, use it. Also be careful that you don't defeat the real Gan Ji (he'll have nearly two full life bars, so you should be able to tell which one is the real one) because if you do, the stage ends and you don't get your weapon. Once you defeat all of the illusory Gan Jis, the Precious Item box appears in the small area to the north. Grab it, then go back down south and finish off the real Gan Ji to complete the stage. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUN JIAN ^VT True Heavenly Wolf Sword Stats: Base Attack 34 Light Weight Musou Charge Lvl 18 Defense Lvl 16 Mounted Lvl 16 Musou Lvl 15 Life Lvl 15 Battle of Si Sui Gate úö ÖĖíĒ Your task is a simple one, but it isn't easy. You have to defeat Lu Bu within 5 minutes of him showing up, which triggers once you get in front of the castle gates. Of course, Lu Bu is Lu Bu, and rather tough. You'll need to buff Sun Jian up fairly well, and using a Musou Kakusei always helps. Once you complete that, the Precious Item box will show up right in front of the gate, which is convenient. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUN QUAN cT White Flame Emperor Wolf Sword Stats: Base Attack 34 Average Weight Musou Charge Lvl 15 Bow Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 16 Musou Lvl 18 Charge Attack Lvl 17 Battle of Chi Bi ÔĮĖíĒ This is one weapon that I recommend doing in Musou mode instead of Free mode. The reason is that in Free mode, Chi Bi is a 5-star difficulty battle for Wu and Shu. However, in Musou mode, Chi Bi is only Sun Quan's second stage. Thus, if you do it in Musou mode, even on Hard difficulty, it won't be nearly as hard as it is in Free mode. To get this weapon you'll need to succeed in all three parts of the fire attack, namely linking the enemy boats, causing the southeast wind to blow, and actually setting the fire itself. First things first, you need to cause the boats to be linked. This is done by defeating Cai Mao äïāî and Wang Lang ĪY, which will drop the bridges in the center. Now Zhuge Liang will begin praying for the wind and Huang Gai will begin preparations to set off on the boats. Xiahou Yuan will come down to intercept Huang Gai, while Zhang Liao and his two subs will work their way down the west side to try and interrupt Zhuge Liang. Thus, if you just defeat Xiahou Yuan and Zhang Liao, you should be able to succeed at the next two parts. While you're waiting you should probably go up the east side of the map as Zhen Ji and her subgenerals are rather fierce and are probably beating up your generals by now. Once the fire attack succeeds, though, this will all change, as the Wei army morale drops to pretty much nothing. This will cause the Precious Item box to appear on the large boat directly south of Cao Cao's boat. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUN SHANG XIANG úĢĢ Sun and Moon, Heaven and Earth Ring Stats: Base Attack 32 Heavy Weight Luck Lvl 19 Bow Lvl 15 Speed Lvl 19 Defense Lvl 17 Life Lvl 15 Battle of Nan Zhong ėUŠí Do not defeat any generals until you trigger the event where Sun Shang Xiang rendezvous with Sun Quan successfully. To trigger this event, charge towards Meng Huo (again, ignore all generals, although you can take out bases). Ambush troops will appear near your home base and a squad will try to take out the bridge to the south of main base. Wait for a minute or so; eventually the bridge will be destroyed. Now approach Sun Quan. You should see a cutscene where Sun Quan and Sun Shang Xiang are talking. Now for the real event - you must defeat all generals and subgenerals except Meng Huo. You must do so yourself - if your bodyguard or an ally general lands the finishing blow, it doesn't count. So set your bodyguard to defend only and take out generals who are engaged with your army first. There are a total of three subgenerals (Ahui Nan and Dong Tu Ne in the middle area, and Meng You deep in enemy territory), make sure you kill them before you take out their commanding officer. There will be three reinforcements showing up as time goes by; you must defeat them all as well. As long as an enemy general isn't defeated by your allies first, this is actually pretty straightforward once you trigger the event. The Precious Item box will appear just outside the base in the northwest, next to the river. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- TAISHI CI ÕoĢTü Revised Tiger Repelling Wolf Basher Stats: Base Attack Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Mounted Level 15 Bow Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 18 Life Lvl 18 Battle of Wu Territory āSĖíĒ You must be playing on the Allied Army side, not for Wu, when you do this stage. Historically Taishi Ci was against Wu during this battle/campaign anyway, so this all makes sense. After Zhang Ying lures Sun Quan into the eastern fort (which happens soon after the stage begins), defeat Sun Quan before Zhou Tai can rendezvous with him. Then defeat Zhou Tai. The Precious Item box will appear along the north of the map, in front of the gate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- WEI YAN oÉÅŊ Twin Ultimate Star Destroyer Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 16 Luck Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 16 Attack Lvl 18 Musou Lvl 15 Battle of Chen Cang ÂqĖíĒ You need to defeat the four guard captains įõš· that are running the defensive machines of the castle. When the stage starts charge up the eastern road and enter the castle from the east, then turn south. Along the wall you should find three of the four guard captains. Defeat them. Now loop around north and to the west to get to the fourth guard captain. Once you've defeated all four, the Precious Item box will appear on top of the wall just south of Sima Yi's area. Go back around to the east and head towards Sima Yi's area from east to west; once you enter his area, take the stairs along the south wall up and claim your weapon, then just go back down and defeat Sima Yi. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- XIAHOU DUN ÅęiŲå Kirin Destroying Fang Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Mounted Lvl 16 Defense Lvl 17 Attack Lvl 17 Musou Lvl 16 Charge Attack Lvl 17 Battle of Fan Castle æéĖíĒ You must stop the water attack on Fan Castle. This is as simple as defeating Guan Ping, up in the northwest corner. However, Guan Ping has the capability to go into hyper mode (though he doesn't start that way), so try and get him as fast as possible. This is further complicated by the fact that other generals and subgenerals tend to chase you into the damn and mob you when you're trying to take out Guan Ping. Go for lesser generals first, as they die faster, but can still interrupt all of your attacks. Once you defeat Guan Ping and you get the message that you succeeded in stopping the water attack, the Precious Item box will appear in the northeast corner of Guan Yu's base. By this time Wu reinforcements should have shown up as well. Guan Yu will begin a charge out of the base, so sneak in behind him and grab your weapon, then go back and defeat him to finish the stage. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- XIAHOU YUAN āãVf Hard Gold Nine Heavens Splitter Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 16 Attack Lvl 16 Life Lvl 17 Bow Lvl 19 Musou Lvl 17 Battle of Chi Bi ÔĮĖíĒ Your goal is to stop all of the parts of the enemy's fire plan. Now head down to Zhuge Liang's altar and defeat him before he can call the wind. After doing that, go over to the east side and wait for Huang Gai to show up. Once he does, defeat him before he can start the fire plan. Once they do, go and kill all the generals in the area. You should get a message that the peasant troops have been successfully saved, and they and Ma Chao should retreat to the castle. Now the tricky part - you must purposefully let your health drop to a fairly low amount (rather red). While you're at it take out Zhou Tai, to your north; this'll make things easier later. Once your health drops fairly low, Liu Shan (your commander) will get worried and come out of the castle after you, out of the south door. Immediately go and rendezvous with him. You'll get a cutscene, and now you have to lead Liu Shan back to the castle. Do so and this completes the requirements. Conveniently, the Precious Item box appears inside the castle just along the west wall; also conveniently, there is a jar south of the Precious Item box that contains a Health +400 roast chicken, so you can get back all the health that you lost. If the castle is already surrounded, fight your way out; otherwise head to the northwest area (Sun Quan will teleport to the southwest, so chase him) and beat up Sun Quan to finish the stage. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- XU HUANG Õåf Bai Hu's Fang Stats: Base Attack 38 Light Weight Attack Lvl 20 Defense Lvl 19 Speed Lvl 17 Musou Charge Lvl 16 Battle of Chang Ban ·âĖíĒ Here you need to defeat Zhang Fei and Guan Yu, but only once Liu Bei's final reinforcements show up. Once the stage starts, go down south and claim the two neutral bases down there; avoid claiming the bases in the center, though, as if Liu Bei is held up too long it decreases your chances of getting this weapon. Liu Bei will come to a halt somewhere in the center of the map. Take the opportunity to defeat enemy generals (don't get too close to Liu Bei) and claim gates/bases while you can. After awhile Guan Yu will show up in the southwest. This will prompt Liu Bei to head down that way, which is why you shouldn't block Liu Bei's path by claiming the center bases. At around the same time Zhang Fei will stop guarding the bridge up north and retreat towards the center. Now camp out near the center near Zhang Fei (not so close that he comes to attack you). After waiting some more, Liu Bei's navy will arrive in the southeast. Now is your cue to do your stuff. Defeat Zhang Fei, and then head south and defeat Guan Yu. If you claimed the two southern bases before like I told you to, Liu Bei won't be going anywhere. Once you defeat the two brothers, the Precious Item box will appear in the southwestern corner, near where Guan Yu showed up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- XU ZHU VÞāezÓ Superb Waterfall Crusher Stats: Base Attack 38 Light Weight Musou Charge 17 Bow Lvl 19 Life Lvl 20 Luck Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 19 Battle of Tong Gate āMÖĖíĒ Defeat Pang De and Ma Chao. Since the conditions for winning this stage are to defeat Pang De, Ma Chao, and Han Sui Ø, you need to make sure you don't defeat Han Sui first. This shouldn't be a problem though since he's isolated way up north, where Ma Chao and Pang De are west from your starting location. Ignore Cao Cao's orders to charge north. Ma Chao will charge Cao Cao's position, but you'll run across him if you simply head west. He's pretty tough so be careful; it really helps having a fan-using bodyguard. Also watch out for the lesser generals in the area; they aren't tough, but getting mobbed while you're trying to take Ma Chao is a serious pain. Try to take out as many archers as you can too, as they're a serious liability for Xu Zhu (or, just equip the Musou Armor). Now onto Pang De, who is even tougher on this stage. As long as you got everybody else in the area, though, you should be able to handle him. Just run away if he uses a Musou Kakusei. Once you defeat the both of them, the Precious Item box will appear in the river west of where you started. Just go back and get it, then join Cao Cao in the north and finish of Han Sui. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- YUAN SHAO ^eđ True Conqueror's Sword Stats: Base Attack 34 Average Weight Attack Lvl 18 Mounted Lvl 15 Bow Lvl 15 Defense Lvl 18 Musou Lvl 17 Battle of Guan Du ŊnĖíĒ To earn this weapon you'll need to protect your own generals Yan Liang and Wen Chou, and demoralize Cao Cao's army to the point where they open the gates for you. If you know your history well, you'll know that Guan Yu killed Yan Liang and Wen Chou pretty much off the bat at Guan Du, and of course the game is the same way. You'll need to defeat Guan Yu before he encounters either of those two generals (else they die suddenly in a cutscene). Afterwards it's just a matter of demoralizing Cao Cao's troops, so defeat generals and take enemy bases as you go along. Once their morale is reduced to nothing, the troops will throw open the side gates of the castle. The Precious Item box will appear on top of the castle gates, on the east side. Climb the stairs up to the walls from inside the castle to get it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- YUE YING Îę Pale Moon at Lake's Bottom Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 15 Mounted Lvl 15 Bow Lvl 16 Defense Lvl 17 Life Lvl 16 Battle of Wu Zhang Plains ÜäīĖíĒ This is going to be a tough one. Wu Zhang Plains is a five-star stage, and even after you get the weapon you'll have quite a time just trying to win, so make sure Yue Ying is fairly built up. To trigger the weapon to appear, you must defeat Deng Ai ûđä before he manages to set up the catapults. Deng Ai will appear as soon as you enter any of the three supply depots on the enemy front lines. If you wait too long, too, he'll appear anyway. First things first; head northwards and take out the varied subgenerals and generals headed your way. I also like to take the two enemy gates as well as the attack base on the western side of the map; it'll make the later stage much easier. Once you've cleared out this side, go up to the far left supply depot. Kill the captain guarding the doors, then hop on your horse and speed through the supply depot north. Don't worry about taking the supply depot itself, for now; Deng Ai will already be well on his way to setting up the catapults, in the center of the map. Run him over with your horse, then get off and beat him up. He isn't too hard, but if you let him he WILL run away from you, and he's surprisingly fast. So just keep up the pressure. A few good combos should take him out. Once you've defeated him, the Precious Item box will appear in the dead end (where the catapults WOULD have gone) on the enemy's side of the map, south of Zhen Ji's position. Now back to winning the real battle. By now one or more enemy generals will probably have made their way pretty far down the east side of the map. Chase them and take them out so you don't have to worry about your commander dying. Take the enemy supply depots one by one. The only generals you really have to worry about are Cao Ren, Zhen Ji, and Xu Zhu; the rest are generic weaklings. Still, go ahead and take out subgenerals first; you'll get a lot of good Attack and Defense +4/8s on this stage, so you might as well. If you get this far, the rest of your army should be quite able to help you take out Sima Yi at the top of the map. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZHANG FEI jRÖĩ Army-destroying Snake Spear Stats: Base Attack 39 Light Weight Musou Charge Lvl 16 Mounted Lvl 16 Defense Lvl 15 Attack Lvl 19 Musou Lvl 17 Battle of Chang Ban ·âĖíĒ As soon as the stage starts, defeat Wen Pin ķãŲ, Xiahou Dun, and Xiahou En Äōķ. The first two will come charging your position, so they should be easy enough; Xiahou En is one of Yu Jin's subgenerals, so go out and find him. Once you've defeated all three, the Precious Item box appears on the bridge that you were supposed to be guarding... ahem. Pick it up and finish the stage normally. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZHANG HE éø Zhu Qiao's Rainbow Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Musou Charge Lvl 15 Speed Lvl 19 Attack Lvl 16 Musou Lvl 18 Charge Attack Lvl 15 Battle of Jie Ting XāĖíĒ First you need to surround Ma Su. Defeat Gao Xiong ãÄ and take the gate near him to seal off one ally route; then do the same with Wang Ping Ī― and the gate near him. Now claim the supply depot in Ma Su's camp. This will complete the plan to surround Ma Su; he'll be demoralized and begin to retreat (or, if you do all of this quickly enough, he'll never have left his camp in the first place). You'll know when he begins retreating because he'll lose his hyper mode enhancement. Once this occurs, simply kill him. The Precious item box will appear in the corridor leading eastwards from Ma Su's camp. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZHANG JIAO Î_ņ Roaring Fire God's Staff Stats: Base Attack 34 Light Weight Life Lvl 17 Musou Lvl 19 Musou Charge Lvl 17 Charge Attack Lvl 16 Defense Lvl 18 Yellow Turban Rebellion ĐÐĖ This is probably the hardest fourth weapon to get in the game, both because the conditions are strict and because Zhang Jiao is a pretty crappy character. You must rendezvous with Zhang Bao Ģó and brainwash Cao Cao's army, rendezvous with Zhang Liang ĢĀ and brainwash Sun Jian's army, and let Zhang Man Cheng ĢÖŽ drop rocks on the enemy; and the kicker is you must accomplish all of this without letting any of your allies die. Thanks a lot, Koei. First things first; to have Zhang Man Cheng succeed in dropping the rocks, you'll have to take care of Gongsun Yue ö·z who's in his way. Do this as quickly as possible. Now go to the southern altar and rendezvous with Zhang Liang to brainwash Sun Jian's army. You have to stay on the altar with Zhang Liang until you get the cutscene where you succeed. You can kill stray Sun Jian subgenerals that get onto the altar, but you can't kill Sun Jian himself. After awhile you'll succeed. Immediately head for the central altar and meet up with Zhang Bao to do the same thing to Cao Cao's army. If you manage to complete all three successfully with all of your generals still alive, the Precious Item box will show up near Zhang Liang's altar. If your generals are dying, there are several things you can do; you can try and take out enemy generals near them (though remember, you cannot get Cao Cao or Sun Jian); you can take a strong bodyguard and leave them next to your allies (by pressing select until the 'hand' icon comes up); you can use a bodyguard with the 'Kobu' skill (which raises your ally morale); or you can play 2P and have the second player guard any of your allies in danger of dying. If you successfully get the weapon, you still have to clear the stage; again, no mean feat for Zhang Jiao, since you have to kill every general that's left. Dong Zhuo shows up midway through the battle and yes, you have to get him too. Good luck, you'll need it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZHANG LIAO ĐīšÜÚÝ Stats: Base Attack 37 Average Weight Life Lvl 17 Attack Lvl 15 Bow Lvl 19 Musou Charge Lvl 18 Charge Attack Lvl 12 Battle of He Fei ėĖíĒ Your goal is to scare the enemy troops within 10 minutes. Scaring the troops has three stages; first the enemy troops will say something like "This guy's strong!"; the second step will have them say something like "We can't win again him!", and finally on the third step Zhang Liao will announce himself and scare the enemy completely. Normally you can scare the troops by defeating 9 generals or subgenerals (each stage taking three kills), but if you manage to kill a lot of generic troops as well it sometimes takes fewer than 9. In any case, go after the subgenerals first since they're easy to kill. Once Sun Quan retreats into the corner, Taishi Ci and Lu Meng will rush in to join him; ignore them and go for the other generals and subgenerals out in the field. Once you've scared everybody, the Precious Item box will appear in one of the islands in the southeast of the map. Since your army will have broken the bridge by now, you'll have to head in from the south. It would also be a good idea to take out Gan Ning when he shows up so he doesn't kill Cao Cao and ruin your record. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZHAO YUN ģ_ Master Gentian Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Charge Attack Lvl 16 Attack Lvl 17 Life Lvl 17 Defense Lvl 17 Musou Lvl 17 Battle of Cheng Du ŽsĖíĒ Your goal is to conquer the southern fort. As long as your Zhen Ji isn't woefully underpowered, this should be a piece of cake. Simply go around the castle killing generals and generic enemies; once the ambush troops appear, it would be a convenient time to loop back and meet Cao Pi. If you can destroy the two army siege machines that head for the front gate of the castle, that will help your morale for the latter part of the battle. Once you approach Cao Pi, you should get a cutscene with him and Zhen Ji (not the one where they talk about the ambush; it should begin with a scene of Zhen Ji dispatching a number of enemy troops with her flute). Afterwards the Precious Item box will appear. Unfortunately it appears right on Sun Quan's boat, past Zhou Tai. So you'll have to fight your way down there; don't forget to pick up the box before beating up Sun Quan. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZHOU TAI Š Dusk Stats: Base Attack 36 Average Weight Musou Charge Lvl 16 Attack Lvl 17 Life Lvl 15 Speed Lvl 15 Musou Lvl 18 Battle of Yi Ling ÎËĖíĒ You must defeat Zhao Yun before the fire attack, and then you must succeed in the fire attack itself. Zhou Tai starts on the opposite side of the map from Zhao Yun; a horse is necessary. While you're headed over there, go ahead and defeat the one or two generals that charge east; you'll have plenty of time, and this will reduce the chances that Sun Shang Xiang will die. Ignore the generals in the middle and charge for Zhao Yun. He isn't too tough. Take him out, then go north and take out Shamoke. Shamoke's a real monster and can take out Ling Tong and Gan Ning all by himself if you leave him alone, but oddly if you face him yourself he isn't so bad (no hyper mode or anything). By now the preparations for the fire attack should be complete. Zhu Ran éR will charge into the enemy camp; escort him to his destination. Although he doesn't run across any enemies, really, if you aren't on the same screen with him he tends to die, so just stick with him until the fire attack succeeds. When it does, Liu Bei will begin retreating into the southwest corner, and at the same time the Precious Item box will appear in your favorite place - the Stone Warriors maze. As usual, you cannot access the map while you're in the maze, and the screen will go all hazy to boot. Still, at least the box is easy to find; simply head straight south (i.e., forward) from the entrance, and you should find it. After finding it, turn right (westwards) and try to go forward. If you follow the south wall, which does contort a lot, you SHOULD be able to find the exit. Good luck. About 17 minutes into the stage, your elephant troops will get restless and charge the main camp anyway. At this point the reinforcements for Wu should show up along the west side of the map. Defeat them both and the Precious Item box will appear near the bridge you were supposed to destroy. Once you defeat Lu Bu, the Precious Item box will show up on top of the south wall of the castle. Climb the stairs from the inside on the south side and pick up the box, then defeat Dong Zhuo. 3. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. The method you gave isn't working! A. Try again. Make sure your difficulty is set to "Hard" or above. Be wary of time limits. If you just can't do things fast enough, power up your character and try again. Note that even if you play 2P, the CHARACTER WHO IS EARNING THE WEAPON MUST FULFILL ALL CONDITIONS HIMSELF. If the conditions are to defeat 3 generals, and you defeat 2 of them, but the 2P person defeats the third, or your bodyguard defeats the third, or an ally general defeats the third, you will NOT get the item. If I tell you to take an enemy base, YOUR CHARACTER must defeat the base captain. To save yourself the frustration, set your bodyguard to defend (press Select until the shield icon comes up) and don't let whoever's playing 2P kill anybody important. Q. These weapons kind of suck, don't they? A. They might suck compared to previous games, but it's all relative. In this game the base attack of the normal weapons is very low and grows very slowly; the fourth weapons generally have base attacks around 20 points higher than the third weapons. Thus, unlike previous games, it's hard (maybe even impossible) to find a random third weapon that is better than a general's fourth. Q. If a weapon has Attack+ on it and I equip the Attack+ item, will it stack? A. Yes. Incidentally this is the same as DW3 and SW; in DW4, it did not stack. Q. How come all the heavy weapons are for the girls? Isn't that stupid? A. Yes, it is. I have to wonder if the Koei developers suddenly developed sexism. Q. Why do heavy weapons suck? A. This is just my opinion, but heavy weapons without attack+ suck. Why? Because they make you run slower and swing slower, and the damage bonus is minimal at best. Since the characters that get heavy 4ths (Sun Shang Xiang, Diao Chan, and the two Qiaos) aren't exactly powerhouses, speed is their biggest asset, and their fourths just obliterate their advantage. This isn't that a big deal on Easy or Normal, but on Hard and above you're just going to get all of your combos blocked or interrupted. Compare to strong slow characters like Dian Wei and Xu Chu, for whom their 4ths have both light weight and attack+, making them both faster and stronger. And some rather strong-in-the-first-place characters like Sun Jian and Gan Ning get light weapons with attack+, making them game- breaking cheap monsters. Therefore for no good reason, Sun Shang Xiang, Diao Chan, and the two Qiaos (none of whom were exactly overpowered in the first place) are pretty much screwed over by their fourth weapons. Q. Is there a difference between earning weapons on Free Mode or Musou Mode? A. Yes, there is. Aside from just picking "Hard" difficulty, each battle has a rating in free mode. Sometimes this difficulty rating is far different from the rating that would be encountered in Musou mode. For instance, the Battle of Chi Bi for Wu is a 5-star difficulty battle in Free mode. However, in Sun Quan's Musou mode, Chi Bi is only the second stage, and therefore is not very tough at all. Since Sun Quan's 4th weapon is earned on Chi Bi, in his case it is much easier to try and earn his 4th in Musou Mode rather than Free Mode. Note that this also affects the quality of items and weapons you find; in Free Mode, since Chi Bi is a 5-star difficulty stage, you can easily find good 3rd weapons and high (Lvl 16-20ish) items, whereas if you do the same on Chi Bi in Sun Quan's Musou Mode, you'll only find average 2nd weapons and some mediocre items. There are cases where Free Mode is better, as well; Guan Yu's 4th is earned at the Battle of Fan Castle, which is his last stage and therefore pretty tough, but in Free Mode it's 'only' four stars. Thus, not only do you save the time of having to go through Guan Yu's Musou mode, you also reduce the difficulty slightly by playing Free Mode. 4. CREDITS Thanks go to: Koei as usual.
