Biography
Zhuge Xu was Governor of Yongzhou when he was dispatched with 30,000 troops to cut off Jiang Wei’s route into Hanzhong, advancing to Wudu. His presence there caused a vital month delay delay by the reinforcements led by Dong Jue and Zhang Yi held back to intercept him instead of going to Yang’an Pass as intended. The Pass fell due to defection but Zhuge Xu was tricked by a Jiang Wei feint to Zhuge Xu’s rear so Jiang Wei was able to go to Hanzhong only to learn of Zhong Hui’s success.
Deng Ai then wanted Zhuge Xu to go with him to attack Cheng Du but interpreting his orders as to pin down Jiang Wei, Zhuge Xu joined forces with Zhong Hui. He was soon arrested and sent to the capital, his fate unknown due to the slander of Zhong Hui, accusing Zhuge Xu of being too scared to attack Shu.
