Biography
In AD 220, the Administrator of Dunhuang died. After his death, Zhang Jiu was sent to the Han/Wei court to ask that a new Administrator be appointed. Along the way, Zhang Jiu was kidnapped by rebels. These rebels wanted Zhang Jiu’s father, Zhang Gong, to join them in mutiny. Although threatened by drawn sword, Zhang Jiu bravely refused to co-operate with them. He secretly dispatched a letter to his father begging him to resist against the rebels. Later on, the rebels were destroyed. Zhang Jiu came out of the situation unharmed.
After his father’s death, Zhang Jiu held rank as Wu and Ji Colonel for the Western Regions. He was later on further promoted to be Administrator of Jincheng. Like his father, he remained loyally in service until his death. When this was, though, is unclear.
