Biography
Pan Xin served as an Officer of Merit under the Grand Administrator of Jiuzhen, Dan Meng. During a banquet, Pan Xin got intoxicated and danced before Dan Meng’s father-in-law, Zhou Jing. He attempted to toast Zhou Jing, but was ignored. Angered, he then attempted to force Zhou Jing to respond. Needless to say, these actions did not go over well with the Grand Administrator. Dan Meng slew Pan Xin on the spot. Pan Xin’s brother mutinied against Dan Meng after this, which led to Dan Meng’s eventual death as well. This also resulted in Shi Xie losing actual control over Jiuzhen. Jiuzhen was under control of the rebels until the Wu officer Lü Dai attacked it, “killing and capturing ten thousand.” (De Crespigny, 683)
