Biography
Guan Lu was a man from Ping Yuan. He was described by one of Cao Cao’s attendants to be ugly and a drunk. As a youth he had studied the ‘Book of Changes’ and gained some fame by his ability to explain the information present with flair. He was later known as possessing supernatural ability at divination through certain events. When Cao Cao was gravely ill, he summoned Guan Lu. On Cao Cao’s request, Guan Lu told him about such things as how Wu had lost a great leader (Lu Su), Shu threatening his borders to the west (Zhang Fei and Ma Chao were threatening Han Zhong) and the death of Xiahou Yuan. Later, he would predict the deaths of He Yan and Deng Yang, two officials of Cao Shuang, regent of Wei. All of Guan Lu’s predictions would come true.
