Dong Fu was eventually appointed as a palace attendant under Emperor Ling. While serving in this capacity, he predicted the fall of the Han Dynasty. At the time, he told Liu Yan that a Son of Heaven would come from Yi Province. Liu Yan hoped to capitalize on this prediction, and moved to Yi. Dong Fu served Liu Yan for a short time, but soon resigned. For the remainder of his life, he taught students in Yi.
