Wang Rui Biography
By James Peirce, @SoSZ
Biography
Cao Yin served as Grand Administrator of Wuling. Wang Rui, Governor of Jingzhou, had a grudge with him and thus planned to have him executed. Fearful for his life, Cao Yin forged a degree from the Household Grandee calling for Wang Rui’s execution and had it delivered to Sun Jian. Wang Rui treated Sun Jian poorly because of his lowly birth, and for this Sun Jian resented him. Having received the decree Sun Jian marched on Wang Rui. His army gained entry to the city by pretending that they were not being compensated enough to even buy clothing. When Wang Rui came out to question Sun Jian the decree was presented and Sun Jian forced Wang Rui to take his own life. (1)
