PROFESSOR WORM'S SUN CE WALKTHROUGH
     FOR DYNASTY TACTICS II

Pretend that's a big fancy ASCII art, and that you are very impressed
with how much work I put into it.

Introduction

This walkthrough is mostly spoiler free, except where it's necessary
to understand the plot in order to get different endings. It will not
tell you what will happen in any cinematics, however... Nor will it give
you any strategies as to how to fight the battles.
Sun Ce has three endings. The first two are unlocked by playing the
regular game, and making various descisions at the plot fork in chapter
2. The third ending is the 'epilogue', which is unlocked by playing
Scenario 1 and following the various instructions that are explained in
the walkthrough.
Also, this FAQ was written on Intermediate difficulty. Major
differences between it and the easier and harder settings are the ammount
of turns you have to accomplish a chapter, and the ammount of rounds you
have to meet in battle objectives to earn items. So if you are playing on
Beginner, you'll have more turns to accomplish your goals than I have
listed. If you're playing on advanced, you'll have less.

     Fundamentals

Barracks Skills - In order to make your generals stronger, they will
need better tactics than the ones they often start with. You earn
'craft', which is money, by defeating enemy units in battle. This is used
at the Barracks when you visit town in order to purchase new tactics.
However, in order to get more and better tactics available at the
barracks, you must take over more cities, towns and villages to get them.
Thus I have listed where to get tem, and you should always take over most
everything you can before finishing a chapter.

Mystics - Mystics are not random. The places where they appear in
each chapter are the same every time you play, and so is what they will
teach or give to you. All you need to do is move an army or a spy to the
location where a mystic is, and wait until the next round so that one of
you generals can visit them in town. Upon doing this, they will do one of
four things...
Teach you a skill - This is their best feature. Mystics teach skills
that you can never learn at the barracks, all of which are very powerful
and sometimes hard to use. For this, make sure you only use your best
generals to learn tactics that they will excell with, and try not to give
the same one too many overpowered skills or you will have a more
difficult time getting the most use out of them.
Give you an Item - It doesn't matter who you send for this. The
mystic will simply give you an item which you can then equip to any
general you please.
Heal Your army - This is nice, but not really essential. I believe
he heals your entire army however, and not just the ones in his location.
So it might not be a bad idea to send a spy onto these locations and just
leave them there, so that if you ever do come out of a battle pretty
mangled, you can just use the mystic when necessary. Sadly, he'll only do
it once.
No One Home - Now, I'm kind of confused about this one. Just because
the mystics are not there in this FAQ, doesn't mean they don't give you
something. In fact, I believe they are redundant means of getting items
which you may have missed earlier in the game, or items which I may have
already unlocked in previous games which are now available anytime you
start a new one. So just because I list a mystic as 'no one home' in this
FAQ, you might want to check for yourself just to be safe.

Conditional Prizes - Sometimes when you get into a major battle
relating to the plot, you will see certain prize conditions listed at the
begining. Just meet those conditions during the battle, and you will
instantly get a new item. Simple, no?

     Hints and Tips

Training : It helps to understand the mechanics of how generals
choose who they will randomly train with when you send them to a
Townsquare, and it's very simple. Generals in an army with other generals
will ONLY train with other generals in that or another army. Generals who
are not assigned to any job or are currently spys will ONLY train with
generals who are also not asigned to any jobs or are currently spys.
What this means is that you can control training, if you know who
your best generals are for teaching other's high stats. All you need to
do is put your best teachers in charge of an army, then put the other
general you want to train in with him/them. It doesn't matter how many
other people are in that location, so long as they aren't in another
army. He will only train with the teachers you have him assigned with.
Then all you have to do is save the game, take that general to the
townsquare, and then reload the game until he trains.
Your best generals for training others are Sun Ce (Trains 5 War, 5
Leadership and 2 Int) and Zhou Yu (Trains 5 Int, 4 Leadership and 3 War).
I personally use Zhou Yu exclusivly, but that's your call.
This is all time consuming, however, and not really necessary. But I
felt I should mention it.
*NOTE* I finally finished my experimental game, (After about a year
and a half) in which I only had 19 total generals but had trained them
all up to perfect 100 in all stats. The end game assessment 'likened you
to Zhou Yu', which I had recieved before. Also, the item I recived upon
beating the game wasn't anything special. Oh well. It was worth a try.

Lu Meng : You may be a bit disapointed when you first get Lu Meng in
your army. His level is low, and so are his stats, and at this point in
the game you probably already have an army's worth of high level
generals. It hardly seems worth using him. DO NOT BE MISLED. Here's what
you need to do...
In Chapter 3, you should find Lu Su as a civilian in a town just
south and west of your capitol. Hire him. Then continue with the game
until Lu Meng joins you, which he will do automatically. He and whoever
your leader is should have a conversation about how he is reckless.
Now then, with both Lu Su and Lu Meng in the same city, select Lu Su
and take him to the townsquare. He and Lu Meng will have a conversation,
where Lu Su lays into Lu Meng about not living up to his potential.
Now save the game, and reset the machine. Simply reloading your game
won't work, you have to reset the PS2. As soon as you load your game
after doing this, Lu Meng will start talking about how he was moved by Lu
Su's words. Normally this would happen after you've finished a round, but
by resetting the machine you've just sped it up by a turn. At least
that's how it worked for me.
The next round, make sure Lu Su and Lu Meng are in the same city,
just like before, and once again take Lu Su to the townsquare. He and Lu
Meng will talk again, only this time he is finally applying himself to
his studies. Lu Meng will gain 5 intelligence from this conversation.
What does all this do? Well... Nothing really, other than be
interesting. BUT! Lu Meng is still extremely good! He can use all manner
of great classes, and his stats (Especially his Int) go up by pretty good
ammounts each level. By the time I had topped him out at level 15, his
lowest stat was a 78!

This chapter is HUGE. One thing to note; Once you start up the road
to the northwest, it takes several rounds to get through all the ambushes
Zhuge Liang leaves behind to slow you down. I took a lot of time to hire
civilians and take out nuetral armies before starting that direction,
with only 5 turns left. Had I waited one more round, I wouldn't have been
able to finish the chapter. So be careful, and get your main force moved
up there a bit early on so that you aren't as pressed for time at the end
like I was.
Once you've defeated Wei Yan, the chapter ends before you actually
get to Chang An.

Also, fair warning... Zhou Yu will at this point leave you for a
while, taking with him whichever generals you choose assign to him when
prompted, and will not be available for the next chapter. Choose well.
They will be the only army available for the single battle in Chapter 6.
But make sure Sun Ce has some good troops as well for chapter 5.

Tuo' item, for winning without losing any ally generals.

Chapter 6 : A Falling Star
Conditions : Repel Zhuge Liang from Chang An for 1 turn.
     Barracks Skills : None

The conditional prize in the battle against Zhao Yun is the 'Spell
Book' item, for defeating Zhao Yun in 10 days or less.
The conditional prize in the battle against Huang Zhong is the 'God
Mirror' item, for defeating Huang Zhong in 10 days or less.
The conditional prize in the battle against Guan Yu is the
'Anelects' item, for defeating Guan Yu in 9 days or less.
The conditional prize in the battle against Ma Chao is the 'Seer
Tome' item, for defeating Ma Chao in 8 days or less.
The conditional prize in the battle against Zhang Fei is the 'Wu
Tzu' item, for defeating Zhang Fei in 5 days or less.

I can't confirm it, but the ammount of days each commander has to be
defeated in may diminish regardless of the order you fight them in. This
is simply the order I chose to fight them in. Either I picked the exact
descending order on accident, or it reduces each battle. I have a hunch
it's the latter.
After you've cleaned all 5 tiger generals out, go for Lui Bei and
you've finally finished.
