You are here: [ Home –> Games –> Destiny of an Emperor –> Chapter IV ]

On this page all officers found in Destiny of an Emperor from after Yuan Shu’s defeat at Nan Yang up until Yuan Shao’s death are listed. With each entry we list power, intelligence, soldiers (if they don’t progress with levels), attack and defense power, any tactics they will have as an enemy, their tactical potential as an ally, and how they can be hired (if possible).

Chapter IV – Yuan Shao Officers

Chapter IV begins after Yuan Shu’s defeat at Nan Yang, and ends with Yuan Shao’s death.

Gao Lan
Str: 100, Int: 60, Men: 942, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Bo Hai Castle (Battle)
(VS): None
(Ally): None
Recruiting: After you defeat Lu Guang at Bo Hai castle it will be possible to recruit Gao Lan after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Gao Lan isn’t a bad officer at all, but if you are looking for someone new you may want to find Lu Guang instead.

Guo Tu
Str: 180, Int: 90, Men: 1,317, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou’s Second Gate (Battle)
(VS): None
(Ally): None
Recruiting: After you defeat Zhang Yi at Ji Zhou’s second gate it will be possible to recruit Guo Tu after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Guo Tu is an all-around great officer and if you don’t already have Yan Liang or Wen Chou you will want to hire him.

Ju Shou
Str: 40, Int: 180, Men: 1,449, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou Castle (Battle)
(VS): Yan Re, Shui Xing, Tong Xian, Shui Jian, Jie Ce, Qi Shou
(Ally): Yan Re, Hong Shui, Tong Xian, Shui Jian, Gui Huan, Li Jian
Recruiting: After you defeat Yuan Shao at Ji Zhou castle it will be possible to recruit Ju Shou after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Ju Shou has many soldiers and a great intelligence; he would be excellent for taking blows in battle and using tactics. You are better off with Guo Tu, Yan Liang, or Wen Hun [Chou] though.

Lu Bu
Str: 255, Int: 40, Men: 1,449, Att: 100, Def: 45
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou Castle (Battle)
(VS): None
(Ally): N/A
Recruiting: Lu Bu vanishes after you defeat him and Yuan Shao at Ji Zhou castle.

Lu Guang
Str: 160, Int: 50, Men: 1,037, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Bo Hai Castle (Battle)
(VS): None
(Ally): None
Recruiting: After you defeat Lu Guang at Bo Hai castle it will be possible to recruit him after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Lu Guang is a wonderful officer with many troops, if you have the chance to recruit him don’t pass it up.

Lu Xiang
Str: 160, Int: 50, Men: 1,037, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou’s First Gate (Battle)
(VS): None
(Ally): None
Recruiting: After you defeat Ma Yan at Ji Zhou’s first gate it will be possible to recruit Lu Xiang after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Although not a bad officer, it is too late in the game for him to be of enough use for recruiting.

Ma Yan
Str: 90, Int: 80, Men: 942, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou’s First Gate (Battle)
(VS): Lian Huo, Shui Tu, Chi Xin, Wuo Jian
(Ally): None
Recruiting: After you defeat Ma Yan at Ji Zhou’s first gate it will be possible to recruit him after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Ma Yan is pretty generic, and not worth picking up.

Shen Pei
Str: 60, Int: 130, Men: 1,255, Att: 70, Def: 45
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Bo Hai Castle (Battle)
(VS): Ye Huo, Shui Xing, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei
(Ally): Yan Re, Shui Lei, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei
Recruiting: After you defeat Lu Guang at Bo Hai castle it will be possible to recruit Shen Pei after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. If you have a chance to hire him early in this chapter, take it. He has good troops, and is pretty good at using tactics in battle.

Tian Feng
Str: 120, Int: 160, Men: 1,141, Att: 70, Def: 45
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Guang Zong Castle (Battle)
(VS): Ye Huo, Shui Xing, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei
(Ally): Yan Re, Shui Lei, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei
Recruiting: After you defeat Yuan Tan at Guang Zong castle you can recruit Tian Feng after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. If you don’t have any good officers from this chapter yet, you will probably want to give him a shot in your party. He is pretty decent at everything.

Wen Hun (Wen Chou)
Str: 190, Int: 40, Men: 1,449, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Xu Shou’s Fotress (Battle)
(VS): None
(Ally): None
Recruiting: After you defeat Xu Shou at his fortress you can recruit Wen Hun [Chou] after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Wen Hun [Chou], along with Yan Liang, is one of the two best officers in this area and he is even available pretty early. Don’t pass up a chance to recruit him.

Xu Shou
Str: 40, Int: 170, Men: 1,255, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Xu Shou’s Fotress (Battle)
(VS): Yan Re, Shui Lei, Tong Xian, Shui Jian, Jie Ce, Qi Shou
(Ally): Yan Re, Hong Shui, Tong Xian, Shui Jian, Gui Huan, Li Jian
Recruiting: After you defeat Xu Shou at his fortress you can recruit him after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Xu Shou, although weak, has a great intelligence and many soldiers. He would be useful in battle for using tactics on the enemy. Wen Hun [Chou], Yan Liang, and Lu Guang (arguable) are all better officers though.

Xu Zhe (Xu Shu)
Str: 73, Int: 220, Men: 643, Att: Varies, Def: Varies
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Dan Fu’s Cave (Northwest Corner)
(VS): N/A
(Ally): Potential Unknown
Recruiting: Xu Zhe [Shu] resides in the cave northwest of Nan Yang. You will not be able to speak with him until you pick up the Gun Powder. To get the Gun Powder you must go Bo Hai and speak with Shui Jing again. In Bo Hai you will learn a little about Xu Zhi [Shu]’s background and you will also gain the means to meet him. Return to the cave and follow the path to the northwestern corner. There will be some rubble blocking your way, but this can be removed by using the Gun Powder that Shui Jing gave you. When you speak with him he will decide to join your cause. Xu Zhe [Shu] is, beyond any doubt, the best strategist available so far in the game. You may also want to consider cutting your party down to five members so he can participate in battle.

Yan Liang
Str: 180, Int: 40, Men: 1,381, Att: 70, Def: 40
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Xu Shou’s Fotress (Battle)
(VS): None
(Ally): None
Recruiting: After you defeat Xu Shou at his fortress you can recruit Yan Liang after a random battle if you can meet his requirements. Yan Liang, along with Wen Hun [Chou], is one of the two best officers in this area and he is even available quite early. Recruit him if you get the chance.

Yuan Shang
Str: 170, Int: 140, Men: 1,672, Att: 70, Def: 48
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Guan Zhong (City)
(VS): Yan Re, Shui Xing, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei, Qi Shou
(Ally): N/A
Recruiting: In the southeast area of Guan Zhong city you will meet Yuan Shang. If you speak with him, he will attack you. Once you beat him, however, he will vanish and you will not meet again.

Yuan Shao
Str: 170, Int: 150, Men: 1,754, Att: 70, Def: 48
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou Castle (Battle)
(VS): Yan Re, Shui Lei, Tong Xian, Shui Jian, Jie Ce, Qi Shou
(Ally): N/A
Recruiting: After you defeat Yuan Shao at Ji Zhou, he will be killed.

Yuan Shu
Str: 142, Int: 152, Men: 899, Att: 70, Def: 48
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou Castle (Battle)
(VS): Ye Huo, Shui Xing, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei, Qi Shou
(Ally): N/A
Recruiting: After you defeat Yuan Shao at Ji Zhou, he will be executed along with his brother, Yuan Shu. Yuan Shu will only be here if you let him retreat at Nan Yang.

Yuan Tan
Str: 170, Int: 150, Men: 1,754, Att: 70, Def: 48
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Guang Zong Castle (Battle)
(VS): Ye Huo, Shui Xing, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei
(Ally): N/A
Recruiting: Even after you defeat Yuan Tan at Guang Zong castle, you will not be able to capture him after random battles (which is quite unfortunate, as he is a wonderful officer).

Yuan Xi
Str: 140, Int: 120, Men: 1,519, Att: 70, Def: 45
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Guang Zong Castle (Battle)
(VS): Ye Huo, Shui Xing, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei
(Ally): N/A
Recruiting: Even after you defeat Yuan Tan at Guang Zong castle, you will not be able to capture him after random battles (an unfortunate trend).

Zhang He
Str: 210, Int: 150, Men: 1,317, Att: 70, Def: 45
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou Castle (Battle)
(VS): Yan Re, Shui Xing, Chi Xin, Shui Jian, Cheng Nei, Qi Shou
(Ally): N/A
Recruiting: Quite possibly the best general in this whole area, it is very unfortunate that Capcom decided to prevent you from hiring Zhang He. Even when Yuan Shao is dead he remains loyal to his land. Perhaps they didn’t want you to have an officer this powerful?

Zhang Yi
Str: 100, Int: 90, Men: 989, Att: 70, Def: 45
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Ji Zhou’s Second Gate (Battle)
(VS): Ye Huo, Shui Tu, Chi Xin, Wuo Jian
(Ally): None
Recruiting: After you defeat Zhang Yi at Ji Zhou’s second gate you can recruit him after a random battle if you meet his requirements. He would be a worthwhile officer if there weren’t already so many other great officers available, just keep away from him.

Zhao Yun
Str: 245, Int: 216, Men: Varies, Att: Varies, Def: Varies
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Guang Zong Castle (Outside)
(VS): N/A
(Ally): None
Recruiting: Inside Xu Shou's fortress you will find a small prison in which a woman is residing. In order to release her you must have the Silver Key. If you do not have the Silver Key you should return to Nan Yang and speak with the merchant in the northeast area of the city. He will offer to sell you a special key [the Silver Key] for 3,000g. Return to the fortress with the key and release the young woman. She will give you the Zhou [Zhao] Letter and ask you to deliver it to Zhao Yun. Continue along the river until you see a castle on the east side of a bridge. Enter to meet Zhao Yun, who suggests you leave at once to avoid a confrontation. Give him the Zhou [Zhao] Letter so he knows that his sister is safe. Now that Yuan Shao has no leverage to use against him, he is free to do as he wishes, and he offers to join your party. Zhao Yun is, without a doubt, the best combat general in the whole game. His troop count starts low, but by the end of the game he will be second only to Zhang Bao.

Zhou Cang
Str: 215, Int: 85, Men: 506, Att: Varies, Def: Varies
Chapter: IV (Yuan Shao), Location: Dan Fu’s Cave (Near Entrance)
(VS): N/A
(Ally): None
Recruiting: In the cave northwest from Nan Yang, just into the entrance, you will meet an officer standing in front of a stream. Talk to him, and he will attack you wishing to take your possessions, but before combat he withdraws. He realizes you are part of Liu Bei’s army, and then expresses his desire to serve alongside you. Zhou Cang is exceptionally strong, and has a decent intelligence and troops. Even if you have a decent officer with many more men, toss him aside in favor of this officer. You will need strong men like him in some of the upcoming battles.
