Destiny of an Emperor: Section Update Archives

You are here: [ Home –> Games –> Destiny of an Emperor –> Update Archives ]

This page contains previous updates for Destiny of an Emperor Content. Links are removed from most of the older listings here because when Kongming’s Archives was first made the site was completely dedicated to Destiny of an Emperor. The layout structure has been completely revised since, and the file structure is no longer valid at all. To view the main page, click here: Destiny of an Emperor.

Destiny of an Emperor Archives (Old-school Site)

5/28/02: Fixed link to the patched Destiny of an Emperor II English ROM.

4/30/02: Fixed the search engine (yes, it still looks as archaic as the rest of the Destiny of an Emperor site) and updated the main menu. Search away.

4/23/02: The downloads section has received a complete revision. Dead links have been fixed or removed, the downloadable items have been updated, and we are now hosting the English Destiny of an Emperor II ROM and a Macintosh IPS Patcher. Created another archives file to trim this home page.

3/25/02: The walkthroughs section has been updated (with multiple corrections) and so has the officer portraits section.

2/20/02: I have just added an officer portraits viewer to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms sites and while I was completing it I took the chance to add one for Destiny of an Emperor as well. If you want to see it click here.

2/20/02: Our Romance of the Three Kingdoms (novel and game) and Dynasty Warriors pages have gone live! If that is what you are looking for please follow this link or use the games menu in the frameset at the top of the page http://www.kongming.net/ - enjoy!

2/20/02: There we go, that should solve the Internet Explorer 6 issues. (I won’t be able to test right away as my Windows box is broken, but I will get to soon). To do this I had to use some HTML that old browsers (Like Netscape 3) won’t even support but that middle age browsers (Like Netscape 4.x) will support with only minor problems (like no background behind the menu). Looking at the logs almost everyone is using newer browsers that that so all is well. This should work in all 5.x + browsers without messing up at all. Keyword there is should, but so far all looks good.

2/19/02: Oh for heaven sakes. Still some issues with the new menu in Internet Explorer 6 for Windows. Normally I expect Internet Explorer for Windows, Internet Explorer for Mac, and any Netscape/Mozilla build to work great. Mozilla (PC/Mac) and Internet Explorer (Mac) are great, but Internet Explorer 6 for PC… I expected better. Fear not, I know it is the most popular browser out there and I will make it work. I have commented out the games menu for now and I will add it again when I figure out what the problem is.

2/18/02: The new menu was not working properly in Netscape 4.x (no surprise there) and Internet Explorer for the PC. I was quite shocked to uncover that shortcoming as the code should have worked just fine, another case of IE5 for the Mac beating out its newer PC counterpart. Either way, I have made some changes that should put an end to both of these problems. It should work great now in all new browsers along with a number of the older ones. I apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused. As always, please let me know if you see any more problems.

2/16/02: In anticipation of the new Rot3K and Dynasty Warriors pages this site has received the first update to its menu is years. Several options that were included in the old menu are now found on the menu to the right of this page. The new menu is very small small (Only 3KBs!) and will download almost instantly on even a 28.8 modem (but the rest of the site is another story). If you want to use the old menu just click here and bookmark the page for future use. If you are using the old menu and want to return to the new one, simply click here and bookmark the page.

If I discover large problems with the new menu in older browsers I will write a script to take those older browsers to the old menu by default. Even should that occur you will still have the option to return to the new menu using the links below the oath image to the right of this page.

1/14/02: Completed CSS and font rework of the characters section and also checked over all the other sections to see if there were any other occurrences of the problem (an old school workaround that no longer works properly with all browsers). The CSS file is not linked to all pages.

And something that makes sense: I have the old site files and I can now finish this site.

1/12/02: New style sheet for site. Verdana and Arial should be much easier to read than the old (and small) Times font that was used.

Link to Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII added to Links section.

More Game Genie codes added for Destiny of an Emperor II.

Most people who write me want to know how to break Liu Zheng out of prison, so I added it to the FAQs section.

1/11/02: I miss working on this site, and there are still a few things to complete. For this reason I think I will come back to it now and get these things done. For now, some CSS updates while I round up all the old school files used on this site. Even though it was one of my first, more work went into this site than any other I have worked on. It would be a shame to leave it unfinished.

10/31/01: I started a CSS file for the DoaE web page. This will allow me to clean up the HTML in this site and, when completed, will let me update quickly. Yes, I do plan on finishing this site some time in the upcoming future. In the mean time, please feel free to ask me questions whenever you cannot find the answer on this site.

10/23/01: Fixed a few frameset errors that have been nagging at me along with some broken links for sites that have gone down.

Added meta tags to most pages in the site to make sure that they did not appear in search engines. This should have been done a very long time ago. Hopefully this avoids any additional confusion that could have resulted from viewers opening a page that needed the frameset.

And last, but not least, I have fixed the search engine. Not so hard a task after some of the work I have put into the other version for http://www.rot3k.com/. You can still bring up some of the pages that should be appearing in framesets (foe example, in the generals and items sections) but that is not so serious an issue as long as they do not break the frameset itself.

6/25/01: Search engine has been repaired and reconfigured. Everything functions just as before and there is only room for improvement in the future.

6/12/01: Updated main page to reflect some recent changes.

Registered the domain name of http://www.rot3k.com/ and set it up with http://www.caffinated.net.

Cleaned up the front page, some interface features, and began preparing the next major updates.

I am now seriously considering plans for a noframes version. Let me know what you think.

4/1/01: [server is currently off-line]

All locations in the site that have not been completed yet (chapter IX generals and many locations in the cities section) now have a page that links them to the '404' page. This will prevent people from loosing the page as they navigate it until those pages are completed.

Because of the most recent updates the whole site can now be checked with Dreamweaver's 'Check Links Sitewide' command without digging through pages of clutter. There are now no dead links anywhere in the whole site and it will remain that way as long as all external links remain valid. If you find any links in the site that take you to the wrong location please drop us an e-mail so we can fix it. There is no way for us to test for this problem using Dreamweaver or any other major program.

This update also included some misspellings regarding general names and some locations and in all about 200 pages have received some fixes. Thanks to Dreamweaver this project only took about 8 hours instead of something like 30 days and even then there would probably be plenty of dead links remaining.

3/30/01: I have added all useable items to the 'Items' section. There should be no more dead links within that whole section.

I have placed the '404' page in areas where the pages are not yet available. Mainly some of the chapter IX generals and some of the Cities that have not been completed. I have also gone back to the graphics used on the '404' page and remade them. The colors are a bit more vivid and they image files are all a little smaller.

3/29/01: All major pages in the Tactics, Items, and Generals sections have received the new section banner. This concludes the banner updates. Adding them to other minor pages in the site would be an unacceptable exchange when you consider appearance vs. speed. The banner is approximately 6k in size and 4k of the download is cashed when you access the sites main index. That means that each time you load the banner you must only download what is approximately a 2k image. If you are reading this you are probably there. The pages that received this update have also been the subject of some HTML cleanup.

3/28/01: Removed some JavaScript and some unnecessary menus from some of the pages inside the sited. General cleanup and improvements on interface for some of the internal pages.

New page title image implemented throughout the web site. The general with the upraised sword on the left is from the image used by Koei to model Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The Face on the right belongs to Cao Cao and is from a FMV found inside Dynasty Warriors, also by Koei.

3/27/01: Sorry about the downtime that occupied the better part of this month. There were no updates during this time and the page was not worked on. We are now back online and you will be seeing updates in as timely a fashion as before. I was happy to see that people still stop by to see if the page is online, something that I did not expect. Thank you for your support.

The Wei officers and the 'Cities' section will be completed soon. Also look for new page title graphics; a project that is currently being worked on. Download times will not be slowed much at all, and I will find a way to use cached images to speed up the process from page to page.

3/2/01: The 'Items' section has been completed and is now online. There are a few links in the section that have not been completed (screenshots of getting Chi Tu Ma and the Gemsword) but I will take care of this later. I have not yet included the last two magical swords and the Halberd yet but they will arrive with the update that includes all chapter IX (Wei) generals.

The menus in the 'Generals', 'Tactics', and the new 'Items' sections not take up less space, use cleaner JavaScript, and will jump back to their descriptive names after being selected. They should take up the same space in Netscape, Internet Explorer, and all other browsers that correctly read this html.

The new 'Items' section reference popups (pages which contain only one item) will no longer open links in new windows. This is not a strange inconsistency, but will soon be applied throughout the site. I have decided that things will be less cluttered if the popup windows do not open up any new windows. To go back to the most recently referenced item / general / tactic use the 'Back' button in your browser. To open a link in a new window right click (Option click on Macs) and select 'open link in a new window' or a similar option.

The 'Generals' section is nearly complete and will include the Wei officers in the next major update. This final part of the section is not 90% complete.

Minor html and JavaScript cleanup all through the site. Spelling and typo errors fixed. Some sections have been rewritten to be more readable. Finished image updates in the 'Tactics' section.

2/25/01: The links in the 'Walkthroughs' section now work. I can't believe that got by me.

Tony has made some Destiny of an Emperor II Game Genie codes! (you will need to have an emulator that supports Game Genie codes for this to be good news). I will be posting them on my site during the next major update. Until then get them from his page at http://www.angelfire.com/games2/codehut.

I have started gathering the information on Wei, its officers, and its locations. I am about 30% done and it shouldn't be too much longer 'till it is all on the page. That leaves some major work in the 'Cities' section and the creation of the 'Items' section as the only remaining major updates. I will also be preparing my own walkthrough for Destiny of an Emperor. Actually, it has been forming as long as this site has. It is mostly cutting and pasting along with some words in the middle to make things flow together. You can expect the same thing for Destiny of an Emperor II down the road. I am not going to start working very hard on it until DoaE I is completed, however.

Planning is also underway for the Romance of the Three Kingdoms section. I am still looking for the original authors of several items (i/a) so I can make requests/give credit were it is due. We got our hands on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII game files and we have ripped the image files from them. We were actually after the general's images, but, well, what do you do? We have them, we are just doing some translating to find out what picture belongs to who. We have actually been working on this for nearly a month now. I am also searching for walkthroughs on this subject as well.

Aside from the things listed above the last few days have been dedicated to interface and html tweaks. I have been cleaning up some older html and hunting spelling/tying errors in the pages that were assembled with no spell checker. This will continue (with no more posted updates on the subject) until Wei has been added.

2/23/01: The old navigation menu has been removed and replaced with what you see in the frame above. So many pages on this site depend more on width than height that I felt the navigation options would be more appropriate at the top. It should make it easier for users with low-res monitors to see the content featured on this site. Although the new menu uses a little more JavaScript than the one before it loads quicker due to the smaller images. Many of the gifs use for the table above use only 7 to 20 colors. This should help people with dial-up accounts. Please let me know what you thing. (The image behind the 'Rot3K' is one of the graphics Koei uses for Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII).

2/22/01: All information on Wu has been gathered and the Wu generals have been added. Wei will follow after the whole site receives some general updates.

All Wei battles have been added and some information has been added to the other battles pages.

Opera's premier edition has arrived for the Mac and has been tested. Even though the program is not even really in beta the whole site displays correctly and without flaw. It is also amazingly fast.

An issue has been discovered with Opera 5 for Windows. When used in combination with the freedom.net firewall it may cause the image sources of images on some sites to display improperly. We are checking to see if it deals with the JavaScript on this site or if it is a larger problem. If this happens you may want to work with the firewall's settings. Despite this it is still my opinion that they make the best Windows firewall there is.

The whole site is receiving some general updates. Tables are receiving some changes to make them display better and text is being improved or modified for easier reading or nicer display.

2/17/01: Ling Ling, Gui Yang, and Chang Sha have been completed in the 'Cities' section and they now appear properly in all tested browsers. The rest of chapter V and IV will soon follow.

The 'Tactics' page is receiving a minor facelift to make it somewhat more pleasant to look at.

Minor updates in the 'Introduction' and 'Links' sections.

Research on chapter VII (Wu) has begun and you can expect to see the generals soon.

Rot3K has finally been submitted to the major search engines and you should see it appearing in them anywhere from two days to three months from now depending on their methods. (Spiders tend to be fast where are indexing done by hand takes longer, but tends to produce better search engines).

Counter added for general reference. (At this moment Rot3K appears on few other sites).

2/14/01: The Codes section has been added and it includes a wide variety of Game Genie codes. It includes codes from Tony Hedstrom (Home Page) and Bandai, the makers of the Game Genie.

The Links section has been updated and Magic Destiny has been added.

'Walkthroughs' has been updated. All links in the section work and some walkthroughs from KR Zhang have been added.

'Downloads' has been added. Some of the page's content is included here and ROMs for Destiny of an Emperor I, II, and III are available. I is English. II is Japanese, but the patch by Magic Destiny is also available. III is Japanese and no patch is available.

The links in the 'Game Manual' section have been fixed and the files there are not available.

2/13/01: Generals I - VI is complete. All of it. That took some work, but it was worth it. Wu and Wei generals will be following soon.

The Links, Walkthroughs, and Downloads sections will see their first additions. Now that everything is somewhat presentable I am also going to submit the site to the search engines so people can find the page without having to hear from an insider. I am also taking the first steps on a Destiny of an Emperor II project and the Japanese ROM and patch may be made available. If not, I will point you in the right direction. Also, someone is gathering the necessary snapshots and information for a Final Fantasy I page, so I am going to put that up too when the time comes. Good things down the road.

2/11/01: I have made the last update of the 'Generals' section tables. They are now much more pleasing to the eye, more conservative when it comes to page space, and they are also easier to read. I have not yet applied this update to the individual generals popup pages. I have also completed chapter II for this section, though I have yet to add those generals to the alphabetical and popup sections. This will be taken care of tomorrow.

Some kind authors have given us permission to use their walkthroughs on these pages. Please look at their information and visit their sites as well. All walkthroughs and information from sources other than this site will be brought up in blank windows so as not to make it look as if it is our work. In Windows press Control+W to close the popup and on a Mac press Command+W. I will be including these new items in the 'Walkthroughs' section shortly.

2/9/01: The 'Introduction' section is now up and includes many of the answers that people frequently write me in regards to.

The 'Generals' Chapter III section has been completed and is now included and available in all three areas that make reference to Destiny of an Emperor generals. I have also finished the update regarding the Dreamweaver 4.0 error that is mentioned in yesterday's update other than a few small pages here and there that I will take care of as soon as I notice them.

2/8/01: Chapter III in the 'Generals' section has just been completed. I have not yet prepared the html for the letter sections, nor have I added the chapter's generals to the 'allgenerals' section (the section that I use when you click that general's link in another section), but that will follow soon.

I discovered an interesting bug in Dreamweaver 4. If you use any of its auto-indent features in the html view of the page you are working on it you will eventually come across it too. In Netscape and in many PC browsers the source code displayed has highly exaggerated indentations and it makes the code sloppy and hard to read. I spent a good part of the day fixing this. Here is an example, I will keep it up for a while.

2/6/01: Today I worked on the search cgi. I have simplified the initial options. It now defaults to Boolean = 'AND' and case = 'Insensitive'. I have also rewritten the html inside the script so the page it writes matches the theme on this page and others rather than simple text on a white background. I have also fixed a problem that prevented it from searching all of the directories it should, which included the whole 'Cities' section.

2/5/01: The 'Battles' section has been completely remade, all the links have been updates, and all the links to the battles images work. The html has been cleaned up and despite the addition of chapter VI the page actually loads about 10% faster. The battles section will bow be updated with the 'Generals' section.

The whole 'Translation' section has been remade. It now sports the new look, valid links, and is even 5k slimmer. That doesn't sound like much, but that is 4 seconds on a 28.8 and approximately a 30% speed improvement. I will be adding more to this section as the page moves along.

The 'Compatibility' section is now complete and I will add to it as new browsers are released and as I test current browsers. To take a look at it follow the link on the right side of the page under the heading 'Browser Compatibility?'

New background to replace the palace tiling that I used to use. LMK what you think.

2/3/01: All of the locations in chapter VI have been completed and the tables and html used in the 'cities' section have been cleaned up and optimized for the best appearance and the fastest possible speeds. Earlier chapters will be redone and missing cities will soon be added.

Chapter VI has been added to the 'battles' section. In addition to that, the whole 'battles' section has been optimized for the search engine.

The 'Game Guide' introduction has finally been updated to match to new page theme as found on this page and under 'Links'.

1/31/01: The 'Tactics' section is now finished. All links are now valid, the table width no longer brings up a scroll bar at the bottom if IE (Mac), it has been optimized for viewers with low connection speeds, and now all TP cost and LV Learned cells are accurate.

"Generals has been updated. Chapter IV, V, and VI are all now complete, but remember that some of the pages they link to may still be incomplete. The 'draft' table template used for chapters I, II, and III has been updated to make the appearance more consistent. 'Generals' has now been optimized for low connection speeds. An appropriate page has been used in exchange of the empty pages that simply used an old and out of place Liu Bei table. The fonts and type sizes have both been updated to match the current page theme. All meta tags in these area have been optimized for the search engine.

The 'Walkthrough' and 'Feedback' sections have been updated to the new site colors (as seen on this page). They still lack a large amount of content. If you wish to contribute anything (walkthroughs, codes, articles, etc.) please e-mail us.

1/29/01: The search feature is now online. It includes a Boolean and case sensitive / insensitive feature. I need to go through and update page titles and add some meta, but it should be a great way to find what is up and avoid the current dead links.

1/28/01: Opera 5 now enjoys full support along with Netscape and Internet Explorer with no splash screen or multiple pages. Still resizes all windows when reading any JavaScript that specifies the dimensions of a new window.

Started updating various sections of Rot3K focused on instructions and not content to match the color theme presented by the home page (this one) and the links page.

Started writing the update for all generals in chapter IV. This will include more information, nicer tables, better writing, and cleaner code. For an example view the generals from chapter V and VI.

Links in the 'tactics' section now work. 'Tactics' has also been updated.

'Cities' has been revised. The JavaScript banner menu is no longer included and the page has been simplified. About 60% of the city pages, however, have not been completed.

Added DoaE's introduction to the right side menu.

1/26/01: Online for the first time, but page still in testing and only 60% complete. I am looking for related pages to link to and contributions regarding any Later Han Dynasty game or the novel.
