4/1/09 (James): Destiny of a Pikachu (April Fools’ 2009)
Hello everybody! It has been a while! I hope you enjoyed our April Fools’ joke for 2009. I have to agree with the folks in our forum, though: Destiny of a Pikachu would have been a pretty fun Destiny of an Emperor mod to play. Perhaps I’m just a sucker for the series because I played it for years with a wonderful family? In cased you missed it, our Destiny of a Pikachu joke is still available for online viewing. It is the latest in a long tradition of April Fools’ jokes here at Kongming’s Archives.

On another note the past year has been anything but uneventful here. The modding community in our forum, Scholars of Shen Zhou, has been thriving in particular. Numerous Legend of Cao Cao and Romance of the Three Kingdoms projects have been started, and some have even been finished. Look around to see if anything interests you. Also, our Destiny of an Emperor: Cao Cao Edition mod, a few years in the making, has entered the final beta testing phase. If you’re interested in playing ahead of everyone else, you’re definitely welcome to participate.

4/15/09 (James): Pinyin vs. Wade-Giles Officer Reference Chart
A fellow named Nate wrote in to ask if we have a reference that will allow the cross-reference lookup of Wade-Giles and Pinyin variations of officer names. It actually struck me as strange that I never put something like this together given our database already supports it and it is a common question asked by people who decide to read a Wade-Giles version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

I took a moment out of my evening to toss a reference for this purpose together: introducing our new Pinyin to Wade-Giles Officer Name Reference Chart. Searching isn’t perfect as only Pinyin is supported and reliable Wade-Giles support would be time consuming to add, but this alone should help to ease the process of re-learning familiar officer and character names.

Anybody interested in Wade-Giles Romanization can also learn a great deal from Lady Wu’s Introduction to Wade-Giles Romanization. Additionally, our Three Kingdoms Officer Encyclopedia also lists Wade-Giles names for the 2,000+ officers that have been entered.

9/15/09 (James): Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI Secret Officers
Very small update. I’ve added portraits for the Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI Secret Characters to the Three Kingdoms XI Portraits Collection. If you’re the person who contributed them, please let me know! I’ve forgotten who you are. More game portraits may be on the way soon.
