Romance of the Three Kingdoms X, a single-player kingdom management strategy game, is the tenth installation in Koei’s historic simulation series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. You assume the role of an officer, rising through the ranks, or ruler (created or historic) as you manage your kingdom, officers, relations and economy, draft troops and wage war—all in a bid to restore unity to China.
Characters and events in Romance of the Three Kingdoms X are inspired by the namesake novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguo Yanyi; 三国演义), written in the Ming Dynasty, 14th century, by famous Chinese author Luo Guanzhong. Events in Romance of the Three Kingdoms are, in majority, based on historic government records from the Three Kingdoms era of Chinese history—a chaotic period marred with civil war as famous warlords fought amongst themselves for control of China—and further romanticized through storytelling, folklore, and the mind of a brilliant author.

1/6/07: Years ago the team at threekingdoms.gamevn.net created patches for Romance of the Three Kingdoms X. Unfortunately they went offline some time after the game was released and the patches, once easy to find, read about, and download, became very difficult to locate. Every forum in the community has probably seen a few (usually unsuccessful) threads requesting them. With great thanks to forum member Ake, who provided us with the files, we are happy to say we are once again able to share them—this time on a site that isn’t going to go offline any time soon: Romance of the Three Kingdoms X English Patches.
3/22/06: Here’s a special treat for everyone: I’ve assembled the full collection of Romance of the Three Kingdoms X portraits (thumbnails and full game-size portraits) into a single section of the site, all for your viewing pleasure. They are sorted alphabetically, and at present, every officer is featured. Down the road we’ll probably add some of the extra portraits as well.
2/25/05: Linked game information to our database and made new additions (e.g. Google, forums). Access new information through the resources and links above.
7/25/04: A new collection of screenshots has been uploaded, and includes various portraits, various elements and happenings, and excerpts from Guan Yu’s 1000 li journey event. Also, for those of you that own an Asian PC release of the game, you might want to have a look at Jonathan Wu’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms X Translation Project.
1/25/04: Put the new Romance of the Three Kingdoms X section online to share some early screenshots from the Windows release scheduled to appear in Asia in Spring 2004. Also added the screenshots page, which, in addition to displaying various aspects of the game, introduces new features.
